BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES.- Chapter 5.

“I want us to forget this night” Mehek completed. She knew what she wanted, she was confident that this wasn’t love. And above everything else, she wanted Abhimanyu in her life.
Before he could respond, she hugged him. Her body was shaking, that wasn’t because of the pain, but it was the result of her fear, the fear of losing Abhimanyu.
For Abhimanyu, she was special and he was in a relationship. He knew what she was doing, is the right thing to do.
Mehek returned her home after that incident. She went straight inside her room and did nothing, the whole day she was in her room, silent, blocking every single thought of Abhimanyu, from coming to her mind.
Curled in the blanket, pacing outside the window, she kept thinking about that night. It wasn’t her fault. There was a war inside her head, the war between her will to not think about it and the wish to remember that magical moment. She was stuck between her will and wish. At the end, her wish won the battle.
Neither of the two called or texted each other that day.
As the rain went to rest, their friendship slowed down.

Days passed, their conversations shortened. Earlier, they were each other’s drug, they were addicted, but now, they had no words.
Inside both of them was a pain, they were suffering and they needed each other. But the guilt inside their heart was stronger, it wasn’t allowing them to express it.
They were burning inside their own guilt but what they didn’t noticed, was that their friendship was on fire too. And this distance was turning their beautiful memories into dark lifeless ashes.

Soon, Abhimanyu got busy in practices for his inter-college basketball match. He was busy enough to notice that Mehek never replied to his last text.
While Mehek, she stopped talking to everyone. From each morning to every night, she used spend her time, alone in the room.
Sitting in the dark, she used to spend her day crying, scrawling her pen around her books, tearing her notebooks down. She was depressed because she knew she was in love with Abhimanyu. The guy, she will never get.

The idea of falling in love with one’s best friend seem so easy and perfect, but what about the pain? The pain of not having them the same way, they once were in your life. And most importantly, what about the fear? The fear of losing them? The fear of losing the one you loved the most, the fear of losing the one who once used to know you the best.

16th March, 2016
College’s basketball team won the winning cup, the whole college was celebrating the victory. People were hooting, screaming Abhimanyu’s name, but his eyes were searching for only one person, Mehek.
He wanted to hug her, tell her how she was in her mind when he shot the last basket, how the memory of her beautiful smile used to light up his tiring face throughout his time in Mumbai. But she, she wasn’t there.
He called her thrice but there was no response, so he texted her, yet again, there was no reply.
He tried to find her everywhere in the college, but failed. At the end, he left all hopes and just to meet Mehek, Abhimanyu went to Riya.
Looking at Abhimanyu coming to her Riya got excited but Abhimanyu straightaway asked her about Mehek, and there, she was standing still with a confused look on her face. How can Mr. Perfect of the college ask about a stupid depressed girl? “Library, I think. If she has come today.” she replied.
“Today? What do you mean? She never skips college.”
Riya was confused, thinking how did Abhimanyu even knew Mehek and why he was so concerned. She could feel something was fishy between them, and Abhimanyu predicted that “Who will give me the notes now? What the hell is wrong with this girl? That’s why I never talk to people like that.”
He knew what a gossip queen Riya was, so he diverted the conversation and left without saying anything else.
Abhimanyu’s steps hurried towards the library, till he stopped outside an empty classroom. Room no. 27, the class that was closed from last 5 years. He heard someone’s voice from inside, someone was crying.
He was scared, but he collected his strength and slowly opened the door, it was a girl crying with her head resting on the table. It was Mehek.
Abhimanyu closed the door as he hurried inside the room, and sat down on the chair kept beside Mehek’s seat.
Her eyes were closed, her hairs scattered on her face. She looked weak and red. Abhimanyu kept his hand on hers. She opened her eyes in shock, her body was shivering violently.
A look into her pale, bloodless eyes and Abhimanyu was unable to hold himself anymore, he hugged her. And she gripped him tight and cried in pain. Like an injured animal, her heart was injured too, she was yearning in pain. Seeing her pain, and her shivering body, Abhimanyu couldn’t stop his tears.
Her grip on his back, shuddering of her body, her racing heartbeats, he knew he won’t ever be able to let her go. Her tears won’t let him, she needed him and he just needed her to be happy.
She kept crying in pain, he kept caressing and consoling her. She kept falling in love with him again, it kept killing her over and over.

It’s painful when you know something will break you and it’s harder to know that you have to accept it, but what’s hardest, is the feeling that you have to accept it and you have to be okay with that pain. It literally kills every bit of your soul. Shatters your heart and breaks you into so many pieces. And yet, you have to smile, act, like everything is fine.
His shirt was wet with her warm tears, her eyes were dry and cold. Her heart was empty and void, while in his heart, were thousands of questions. “Why can’t I leave her?”. “Is this because of that night?” the questions kept revolving inside his head.

Mehek finally lost her grip, she felt numb. Her hands slightly slipped down from his back and the tears stopped, her heart beats slowed down. She was light as a feather, she wasn’t sobbing anymore.
Abhimanyu gently pushed her shoulders away from his body, trying to look at her.
Her face was pale, her eyes were closed and for the first time, her skin was cold.
Abhimanyu panicked, he checked her breath she was breathing. He took her in his arms and ran towards the first aid room. The whole college watched.

They weren’t a secret anymore.

Did Mehek just passed out or was it something else? What will Abhimanyu do now? Was he in love with Mehek? How will everyone react to their relationship?
Find out in the next chapter.
