BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES. Chapter 2

*STORY SO FAR*

The pain of dying is easier than to see someone dying.” she looked at Abhimanyu’s face.
He tightened his arms around her and said “I know. And I don’t wanna lose my love too.
It's strange how love is, it makes you sacrifice whatever you have. Somewhere, she was losing everything too and somewhere, she wanted to lose everything, everything for him, his half love and complete presence.

*THE BEGINNING*

Abhimanyu was a strong, handsome, tall, perfectly built guy. The kind of guy you look at and fall in love with. He was the captain of his college’s basketball team, used to play guitar, was a great dancer and well, was a fine singer too. In simple words, he was the dream boy of almost every girl in his college.
While Mehek was a cute, short, messy, tom-boyish girl. Had a round face, an average personality, not-so-toned figure, but a look at her smile and oh! How beautiful she looks.
But when it comes to talent? As she quotes, “I can try to walk straight.” She was so messy that she used to fall every 5 minutes.

They both were different, completely different. But even after all these differences, there was one thing they both had in common, ‘literature’.
Where she used to love writing, he used love reading. And somehow, literature brought the two completely different people together.

Sitting in the library, Mehek’s eyes were filled with tears, so she wrote, expressing every bit of her feelings, she wrote everything on a piece of paper.
She always had this habit of writing down her pain on paper and tearing it afterwards. With every torn piece, her heart used to be relieved of the exhaustion, her pain had caused.

She was about to complete the last line just when her mobile phone rang, she rushed out of the library to pick up the call, leaving her books and the paper right there on the table.

“What?”
“You know what? Abhimanyu smiled at me.”
Like almost every other girl in the college, Mehek’s best friend Riya, too had a crush on Mr. Perfect of the college, Abhimanyu.
“Are you insane? Shut up. I don’t wanna talk about this bullshit right now.” She hung the call in anger.
She knew her words were harsh, but so was her condition. It was another day, when she fought with her mother for her asking Mehek the same question she ask every time, "Why don't you talk to people?".

Irritated after the phone call, Mehek stormed inside the library. But as soon as she entered, she found a guy sitting on her chair, staring at something on the table.
Yes, it was Abhimanyu. When Mehek went out to take the call, Abhimanyu came to the place, he saw the sheet and tried to ignore but the distressed handwriting and tear drops on the paper intrigued him to take a closer look.
And as he started reading, his will to read further, grew stronger.

Mehek took few steps closer to have a clear look of this person who was staring at her stuff, a look at him and she knew it was Abhimanyu.
That’s the thing about famous people, no matter who likes them or who doesn’t, but everyone recognize them.

Mehek's heart skipped a beat, the most popular guy of her college was reading her feelings with such an interest. Mehek kept standing there, still as a statue, trying to figure out what to say, when Abhimanyu noticed her.
“Yes?” he asked.
She was nervous, but somehow managed to pull herself from the depth of her lost world and replied, "That's mine."
“You wrote this?” he asked in a surprised-yet-excited tone. “I mean, though you just expressed your personal feelings but some of the lines that you wrote and those metaphors, it’s, it’s beautiful.
She was blushing, her cheeks were all red, but instead of her red cheeks, Abhimanyu noticed something else, he noticed her red swollen eyes.

He asked her to sit and sat beside her. “Are you alright? I mean I read this so… look I know you are scared of being attached but that doesn’t mean you should stop living. Do you know why your mom keeps asking you the same question? It’s because this is affecting her life just like it’s affecting yours. She just want to see you happy, and be happy herself."
His words were soothing her wounded heart, and when someone who pretends to be strong all the time gets those words, there’s a flood of emotions. And so she sunk.
She had nothing in her mind, she just hugged him tight and cried, her tears made him aware of her situation. She was in pain, the kind of pain which had to go. The kind of pain loneliness bring with itself.

She cried for some 20-30 minutes, explaining everything about her fears to him. From her fear of attachment to her bad experiences to broken friendships, she told him everything. In front of him, she was emotionally naked.

It’s weird how being physically naked is easier for some people but emotionally, emotionally they don’t allow anyone to enter their walls. The walls they build to safeguard their delicate heart. It's the fear that makes them cautious, the fear of getting used or being vulnerable or just the fear of expecting from someone.

They both talked for hours that day, did not took a single lecture, but kept sitting there talking to each other. Yes, it is awkward, it was awkward for them too, but it did felt right. And for such situation, they both had the same theory, “When wrong feels right, you shouldn’t stop them”.

After that day they both became friends, exchanged their numbers but agreed to stay as a secret. They both knew how Mehek always run from attention. They were aware that once her friends and other girls will find out about her friendship with Abhimanyu, they'll put her under situation, neither of them wanted her to be in.

There days were spent in college with other friends and in-between lectures, while their evenings were reserved for each other.
She was sweet and funny while he was caring and quirky. They both started feeling safe around each other. And so, their friendship grew stronger and stronger with each coming day. They both knew every single secret of each other’s, from when was the first time he kissed to how she felt when she tried to smoke.

Out of all the friends that Abhimanyu had, Mehek was the only one who knew about his girlfriend Nandita.
Nandita and Abhimanyu were childhood friends, when their feelings grew stronger towards each other, they both started staying together till Nandita had to move to Mumbai for further studies. Both of their parents were aware of their love and somehow, they were happy. The advantage of having open minded parents.
Nandita and Abhimanyu were in a long distance relationship and so the pain of staying away from the loved one, often used to visit Abhimanyu.

24 February, 2014 was one of those days too.

Miku, I’m missing Nandu yaar. Let’s meet up and have some drinks. What say?”
“Abhi, it's 9 right now. You know my parents don’t allow me to go out that late.”
“Okay. I can understand. It’s just that I’m missing her a lot, she haven’t replied to a single text from past two days.” His voice was low, Mehek knew he needed her.
There was this thing about Abhimanyu, he was the kind of a guy who used to maintain his smile no matter how much the pain is, and so the dullness of his voice, was Mehek’s clue that he really was, deeply upset.
She lied to her parents about a group study at Riya's house. She told them that she'll go to Riya's PG and will stay there overnight, if she had to. So, she called Riya told her that she met a guy and is going on a date with him, so in case, her parents call her, she'll know what stupid explanation she had to give.
Mehek took an auto to Abhimanyu’s society. Hurried inside his building, took the elevator and rushed toward his flat and rang the bell.

“Aati hu” answered a female voice from inside.

Who was the woman inside Abhimanyu's apartment? Was it Nandita?
If she was Nandita, then why did Abhimanyu called Mehek? Or was she someone else?
Did she made a mistake going to Abhimanyu's house after saying no?
Find out in the next chapter.
